Here we go, the first Sunday of the NFL season. Let's look at todays games:
Miami +4 Over Atlanta. Miami went from 1-15 in 2007 to 11-6 in 2008, so what do they do now for the encore? I'm not sure, but they now have the toughest schedule in the NFL. Miami only faced 4 teams with winning records and this year only 1 opponent who had a losing records from last year (buffalo both home and away). They start the year on the road vs Atlanta. Miami was 8 9 vs the spread and Atlanta was 9 8..... not much to choose from there. I think this will be a very close game decided by a few points or less. Here I would take the points and pray if I were a betting man. There are better games mind you this weekend let's move on. Quick fact for next week: Miami has played UNDER 17 of 19 home games in september with a total of 40 or better since 1980.
Baltimore -13 over KC. Nothing to choose from here. The line has moved from 9 to 13 and the public still loves the Ravens. I think Baltimore covers this easy. Todd Haley makes his debut as coach for the Chiefs. The Chiefs were one of the worst teams in the league with a 2 and 14 record but did score even 8 8 against the spread. We will know more about what this means to the chiefs after this game. Baltimore is 7 1 as a favourtie last year with the only loss to Pittsburgh. Until Baltimore proves they aren't the real thing and that may take a few weeks to show, you lay the points against a weak Chiefs team.
Philadelphia -1 over Carolina. This game is a toss up and has gone from philly being a 1 point dog to being a point favourite now. I think the bet here is to grab the +130 on Carolina. I think this game is very close and on a 50/50 bet I'll take the +130. Philly doesn't run well which is good because I don't like Carolinas run defense. If they can avoid giving up the big pass play this game will be very close.
Denver +218 ML over Cincinnati. Here is another game I believe will be close. Great value on Denver here with the ML. We have a coaching change in Denver so what will happen who knows. Denver went 14 -33 1 ATS the last three years and missed the playoffs during that time. Unfortunately he must prove himself quickly as patience is thin in Denver. Cinci was 4 and 11 last year well Denver was 8 and 8. No way Cincinnati should be favoured here.
Tampa Bay +4.5 over Dallas. I expect big things from Tampa this year. I absolutely loved this game but the line is saying I'm wrong moving against me. Maybe I'm just a hater but Dallas doesn't impress me, as they are the most over rated team in the NFL, but what do you want from America's Team. I think Dallas may be looking towards their opening next week against the Giants in the new Football Palace they built. Tampa Bay has a new head coach, who will supervise the rebuilding of this team to it's former superbowl glory. I take the points here, and hope the market is wrong.
Detroit/New Orleans OVER 49.5 New Orleans should put up about 40 points on there own. The question is how many will Detroit put up? They are the worst team in the league. Last year they scored 17 points per game while giving up 32. That's 49 points here. New Orleans scored an average of 29 points per game while giving up 25. Last year New Orleans thumped them 42 to 7. I think Detroit has improved a little so we might see a 42 to 10 game here. I look for this total to go over.
Good Luck in the NFL season boys, let's go get the bookies......
